99 E320 Windows won't function properly after battery died
My wife called me yesterday and said she couldn't get into the car. She didn't have the blade with her so I took it out and found that she left the lights on. I jumped the car and we were off and running. The problem I'm running into now is the windows will go down but will not go back up without pressing the up button multiple times. I put the car on the charger over night assuming that it is possible the battery was still weak. This morning I found out that didn't solve the problem.
So I searched the forums and while I didn't find anything here I found instructions on another website of how to "clear the issue" however, I've been unsuccessful. So either I'm executing the steps wrong or a step is missing. Anyone with the right instructions or insight I'd appreciate. Below is the instructions I found. Thanks! Brian 99 E320 Press the power window "up switch" until the window is completely closed, and hold it for additional 2 seconds. Repeat this procedure for each window. Put the key in the steering lock, and turn it to position 2. Move the seat completely forward and the head rest fully down, and hold both buttons for approximately 2 seconds. Do this for both seats Start the car. Turn steering wheel completely to the left and then to the right. This will clear the electronic stability program error. Put the key in the steering lock, and turn it to position 2. With the sunroof closed, push the sunroof switch up until the sunroof is completely raised at rear, and hold the switch for additional second. |

Those are the correct directions to 'resync' your windows and sunroof. However, the 'hold times' are too short. It should be about 4 seconds before releasing the switch. The procedure is in the owners manual as well. When resyncing the windows express feature be sure that you are holding the switch down in the second fully depressed position.

Fixed
While I was waiting for replies I found another post that came out of the owners manual. Who'd of thought to look there. Windows operate as designed.
The fix, press and hold each window button in the UP position for a few seconds each. Don't go into the auto-up mode otherwise it won't work. Just halfway down on each switch. Once you've done all 4 windows, they will function properly with the auto-up or auto-down feature. Thanks! Brian |
