Wanting the chrome strip door handels

I curently have an 87' 300E and the door handels are fading. I've seen some newer models that have a chrome strip in the handels and I was wondering if anyone knew if any of those would fit my 124 and what year would that be...and if any custom work would be needed.

I had a 95 E300d with the chrome strip handles. They appear to have the same dimension as the ones on my 87 wagon, but whether they are interchangeable is another story. You could try by buying one to see if it fits. Mine are faded badly on the 87, so let us know how it works out.

My 1993 300E has them, but I believe they arrived in 90 or 91.

I see no reason why they wouldn't fit your car.

Don't know how easy it would be to install, though.

well i asked my mechanic....he said not too hard but just to make sure because it will have a new door key, and I know some of them have the keyless entry, and I would not need the passenger door key hole, but mre than that it will make the appearance 100% better. and it will get hard to tell what year the car is.......

I don't think the keyless entry issue will come into play here.

It is not the new type that has the infra red built into the door handle.

All keyless entries installed are of the typical after market type installation.

Right. The door handle change to the infra red system and the unusual square shaped key that you insert into the door lock occurred with the 1996 W210 model.

All W124's from 86-95 use the same kind of key.

Talking chrome door handles

Mine is a 1994 C180 Elegance Euro and it has handles with the lovely chrome tops. Looks even better than the W124 chrome handles which only have the centre chrome strips.

I got curious after reading Hocky's post. So I measured (crudely, in a bit of a hurry) the handles on my 98 C230 and on the 87 300E. Externally the C handles appear to be about the same dimensions as the 300E - just a bit more rounded on the front and back edges around the door metal. Internally, I haven't got a clue how the mechanicals are put together, and what, if any, differences exist. But the chrome upper shroud IS a nice appearance. Both cars are the same color so it was easy to visualize the effect.
