210 pixel repair - Removing gauge needles

210 pixel repair - Removing gauge needles

I am busy taking apart the display cluster to reach the infamous temp and time displays. To reach these lcd's I need to remove the gauges but can't get the needles off. I dont want to pull too hard as this will damage the motor that drives the needle. How are the needles removed?
