Steering wheel coming apart

I have a 89 300E where the rubber of the steeringwheel is not connected to the inner rim. You can actually twist the rubber with minimal force and feel the inside not attached at all.
Any idea of a fix or is it a replacement item.
If so, do the 86-03 all use the same spline or was there a model year change.
Mine has a airbag, so I assume that can transfer over to a replacement.

Any help or idea is appreciated.

Only fix I've found is replacement.
Look for a leather covered wheel on ebay.

Late W124 wheels are smaller and do not directly interchange, you can tell by looking at the airbag. It's a different shape on the later, smaller diameter wheels. You can use the late wheel if you also change the airbag and contact plate under the wheel.

W126 and W201 wheels interchange with early W124, as well.

If you kept one of those turkey baster needle syringe things - inject with expozy as you pull needle out. Hit all the areas that are loose. Twist to distribute expoxy, wipe off any excess glue that comes out of injection hole(s). Easy fix.
