W201 Radiator Removal with AC condenser

Hi Everyone:

I have a 1990 190e 2.6 with AC and I'm trying to pull out the radiator but the condenser keeps getting lifted up with it. I have removed the radiator bracket and the screws that connects the condenser (both upper and lower) to the radiator. There are two more cables connecting to the AC and I do not want to disconnect them due to possible freon discharge. There is very limited vertical movement for the condenser unit to properly separate from the radiator. Is there another way of removing the radiator without the condensor unit with it?

Any assistance is grealty appreciated...

Cheers,

Did you disconnect all radiator hoses and both transmission and oil cooling hoses? Also, I believe there are 5 screws connecting condenser to radiator: 2 top, 3 bottom. Make sure none of the radiator hoses are catching on the ac line on the lower driver side. I replaced my radiator a fewer months ago, but I took both out together because condenser had a leak. Tried to patch leak and put in new radiator, but leak was still there in condenser so I ultimately got a new one. I was able to take thee condenser out without removing ort draining radiator, so I'm sure you can get the radiator out without the condenser hope this helps. Good luck

How did you get it out without touching the radiator? Did you remove it from the front of the car?
I wonder if this is possible on the W124 as well if one removes the bumper and aux fan?

it was actually really easy. Took off the radiator bracket and removed the front driver headlight.....took all but 30 mins to have it disconnected and out. I did not take off the bumper.

Yes, there are 5 bolts two on top and three on the bottom. All of them removed. Do I have to remove the aux fans to make more room to separate the condenser and the radiator? If so, is that procedure pretty easy to do?

You shouldn't have to. Make sure nothing is snagging. Pull condenser apart from radiator and lift up. Try wiggling it while pulling up on it and see if there is something holding it
