SRS Light - components replaced but light keeps appearing...

Hi Everyone,

I've had my 2000 ML 320 with the dealership for 5+ days now and they still can't figure out the problem. SRS light is on and they can't figure out why it keeps coming back on. I've reviewed many posts and nothing is helping what's listed in this and other forums.

Here's the situation... SRS light is appearing again and again - the dealership has replaced an item and wiped memory. The stealership has replaced the SRS control unit (old one said it could not be reset then swapped driver steering wheel airbag (with their service ML) and steering squib sensor (steering position sensor). The SRS light still comes on when test driving.

The computer is still indicating fault code of the SRS control unit not giving (so I'm told..) any other faults. Now the mechanics are checking each electrical contact going into and out of the SRS control unit to ensure wiring integrity.

Can someone please give some experienced input as to what the situation could be? The free loaner car period is running out today (not my fault they can't figure out the problem within reasonable time period) and therefore I'll either have to rent or have no car.

Is there a specific component that would trigger this fault code? Other than what's been replaced? (There are no seat sensors on this vehicle.)

Somewhere in the wiring or another place where faults can trigger the SRS light? As I don't have access to the mechanics computer and its error codes - I can't specify the codes here.

Thanks for the help!

Many times that is related to the e-call (Tele-aid) system that is no longer in use.

Would have that programmed OUT of the SRS system!

Which fault code is it??? Many SRS issues are due to poor contact at various connectors. They're easily fixed, but it's important to know which fault code is causing the light to come on.

Hi mbdoc,

tks for your reply. My car never did have the Tele-aid system so never considered it. Just picked-up the car. Technician advises the codes were pointing to faulty circuit. He believes it at the airbag contacts and has cleaned to establish sound contact. Drop car home and so far so good, but only time will tell as I've picked up car previously and had for a day and then SRS light came on again.

Keeping fingers crossed.... Let u know how this works out in coming days.

Tks

Iluvmils - tks for the reply and input.

You're on the money with contacts. My reply, just now to mbdoc, I mentioned technician believes contacts at airbag. Cleaned up and reassembled. He's not shared the specific fault code. If the prob. continues you can bet I'll post that code ASAP.

Keeping fingers crossed as I'm tired of taking out and putting in my kiddie/baby seats (and all the support crap one needs for the little ones in the vehicle) and getting grief from the Mrs who's had it with the ML....ugh.

Tks and I'll post my findings in coming days - hoping it's gonna be good news.

Also have SRS Light Problem

'95 S320 SRS light goes on every time I start the car and goes out every time after a minute or two. I have an actron cp9135 OBDII reader and the only code it shows is P1137 which i think is rear O2 sensor. Per a forum I purchased some contact cleaner and lube from Radio Shack and did each buckle, no change. Any ideas and any ideas why my reader is not giving me any other codes? Thanks, Steve

Because SRS is not an OBD system.
