tranny rebuild Question
I have decided that the time has come to rebuild the transmission in my 450SL. It has been slipping and skipping 2nd and clunking on the 2-1 downshift. After searching many shops in my area I found a rebuilder that will do the rebuild fro $650 with torque converter. This price seems(strange to say)too low. What questions should I ask him about rebuild parts used etc. before I consider him?

Ask him if his kids have shoes.

Are you sure that wasn't the estimate for labor only?
It doesn't seem reasonable at all, if the job is going to be done right, with good parts, unless it's just the labor.

Yes that does sound too low. I costs more to have a GM pickup trans rebuilt. You better find out everything that the mechanic is going to do. Maybe he quoted you on just replacing the clutch packs. Make sure the the torque converter gets rebuilt too.
