Original Battery?

Is it possible that I have the original battery in my 95 w124 wagon?

I bought the car 10 years ago with 80,000 miles on it and the battery did not look new. Still have that same battery now over 240,000 miles. Has never died and I live in NH where the winters are fairly brutal.

Anyone else have this kind of luck?

Possible, but not likely. I replaced the battery in my 300E and when taking it in, their database showed that it was almost ten years old. I was amazed. Not common, but it happens.

The battery on my 01 Sable is original, going on 11 years. When I realized this recently I threw in a set of jumper cables in the trunk.

It seems to me that there is some sort of date code stamped in to one of the posts, I want to say the ground post. Can't remember what it represents, if it was when it was made? For example a 10 over a 95 would be Oct 1995, see if you have a code like that. I think on the originals there made be a round decal on top of the case or maybe the side that says VPC (Vehicle Prep Center)

Here is a dumb question, what color is the car? There is a reason for me asking, will get in to it when I see the answer.

I forgot about this thread!

The car is white with grey trim. I will check the battery later for a code. Thanks

There was a fairly long period when the 1995 124 wagon (last year of the 124) was really the only thing available for the Roadside Assistance Program (RAP wagon is what we referred to them as). It was awhile before the 210 wagon came out and by then we knew the ML was in the works (recall they had to build the plant in Alabama). Most dealers stretched out the 95 wagons until the ML was out, so around 3 years or so.
So I could relate a few instances where the battery had gotten swapped in to a customers car, because the dealership was closed or whatever, just to bail out a good customer in a pinch.
The RAP wagons were white, so when you said you had a 95 wagon, if it was a white one, the possiblity is there it is an ex-RAP wagon, might explain the battery situation. I would assume if this is the case that the customers battery would then be swapped out for a new one once the RAP wagon was back at the dealer.
