Thumbs up 560SEL OEM timing chain question 117.968

Does Iwis make the OE chain? If so, it is a linkless unit or does it have a master link?

Thanks!

Iwis makes the chains but you have to assemble the connecting link.

I don't know if Iwis made the original chains but they are a trusted OE quality brand. It will have a master link, I've never seen a replacement linkless chain for that engine family.

EDIT: Jinx!

A linkless chain would require that the front cover, oil pan (small one) and oil pump to be removed. I think that is all. Most new chains are pulled in when the old chain is removed so a master link is required unless you have the tools to install a new link that is like all the rest of the links in the chain. If the old chain breaks then a linkless chain could be used because you will have the engine apart fixing all the damage done.

IWIS is the OE manufacturer. Original chains have no master link.
Back in Germany we used chains without master link in rebuild engines, with master link when we just replaced the chain.

Thumbs up

Hmm okay. Looks like my 560 had a chain done with the guides a while back. Guides were Swag brand and chain Iwis with the later dual e-clip master link. I did guides last night including the tensioner rail which had never been done.

Chain is around 6° late so I am going to replace it, then retime the camshafts to see what woodruff keys I need to have them straight up.

Thanks!

Does anyone know if I can do the 2mm lift method without moving the rocker arm?
