TDC sensor bracket loose and sensor broken

The TDC sensor bracket on my 89 300TE is very loose which allowed it to rattle around and caused the sensor to break. This is the one that mounts above the crankshaft correct?

I read a few posts that sound like this sensor does not really do anything and is not needed....Is this true?

Getting to the bolt that holds this bracket on seems like a pain, the bolt is behind bracket from another part. Does anyone know how much I will need to disassemble to get to this one small piece?

Was only for the factory MB "scope" that isn't functional any more!

Just eliminate that pick-up.

Thank you!!! Very happy to hear that......Now how can I remove the bracket or tighten the bolt (with out removing the fan and a bunch of other parts) so it does not rattle and bang against the damper?

Done!!! By removing the pipe from the water pump that crosses in front of the engine I had just enough space to get a wrench on the bolt to tighten it up......If I wanted to remove the bracket it would have been a lot more work.
