1991 300E is misbehaving at 458K miles- Pls. Help

My 1991 MBZ has been driven for a short distance of 458k miles and the check engine light has come on thus indicating code 17. Whunter was an excellent resource.
I believed it could have been the O2 sensor, subsequently, I changed the Idle Control Valve, Injector Fuel Distributor. I even checked the hoses and I also changed the air pump in the past but to no avail the light is still luminescent. Guys, I need your help. Thanks
