C36 Rev Limiter
This may be a lame question that exposes my wanna be racer attitude, but I have noticed in my C36 if you rev the engine while in Park or Nuetral the engine revs to about 4000 rpm and then "stutters" , there is absolutely no problem with engine RPM while accelerating (hard or easy) unless you happen to be "manually" shifting and miss a gear change. I am thinking the stutter is a rev limiter setting for when the car is not moving vs. a redline limiter. Could this be true? BTW I haven't experienced this but once when the car was new (to me) and haven't tried revving it hard while parked since then, I know it's not really that good to do to an engine, but couldn't resist doing just once. Anyway back to my mirandering question, is this stutter a built in idiot proofing that M-B has put into the ECU, or is there a problem? Thanks in advance...

The rev limit in N/Park is torque converter protection. [ no load]
It is over-ridden by a speed sensor signal when moving over 2 mph. You will notice when traveling that you can now place the trans in N and get normal Revs.... |
