200 C280 O2 sensor connector stuck

I am trying to change out the O2 sensor on a 2000 C280. The car is clean with only 105,000 mostly highway miles. The O2 sensors are the usual story- a pain.
But thats not the problem. I can only get one of the old wires pulled out of the
connector. They all wiggle fine and the underside is clean with no leaks.
How hard should I pull ? the 1st one came right out after I removed the metal retaining clips. Should I just grab on to them with some pliers and pull. It seems this should be easy
Thanks in advance.
