Sta-Bil

I don't want to start a snake oil debate or gas debate but would like your comments about something. Years ago, my 84 500SEL would get 20+mpg on long interstate trips. It started dropping about mid 2000 to +/-18 mpg or so doing the same type of driving. I finally realized that it was the ethanol in the fuel that made it drop. I started using ethanol-free gas and the mileage went back to the 20 mpg range. A few month ago, we took a trip from NC to Maine (2400 miles round trip) Searching out ethanol-free gas was a problem. We had just gotten an Exxon card that we got $.15 per gallon rebate so I used it for the trip. I also started using Sta-Bil Marine fuel treatment. Well, mpg was +/- 20 mpg for the trip. So now I use Exxon regular with ethanol and Stay-Bil.
I keep very accurate records for fuel usage and can see trends over the past 7 years. Would anyone like to comment?

Paul
