Rear-headrests wont 'drop'!! any possible fixes?
hey guys, my rear headrests wont drop when the button on the dash is pressed!!!
i just found this out today, and once my mechanics get a chance to look at it, im sure they'll find the problem in no time at all! But, I am still wondering from the time being, if anyone has had this problem, and can provide me with any possible sollutions? thanks in advance, Peter |

They are operated by a vacuum servo. You should find the switching valve under the driver's side rear seat.

Ensure the sunshade is retracting completely

As Michael said, make sure the rear sunshade is down all the way. I had the same question a while back and I thought my sunshade was down but it was not down ALL THE WAY.
If thats not your problem, and I'm sure it is, the solenoid is under the passenger seat behind the driver. The solenoid will not fire unless, you guessed it, the rear sunshade is down all the way! Randy '94 E500 |

This is a common problem, mine does it too. Let the car idle, have a partner hit the drop switch on the dash at the same time you are pressing on rear sun screen in the down position.

Make sure you're in Reverse-they won't drop in Drive

I believe that sometimes pressure to the headrest drop actuator can be weak (IE, when idling), so revving the engine a little, thus increasing vacuum, might correct it. I have noticed that occasionally my headrests will not drop at idle, or will drop 2-3 seconds after button is pressed. But they drop instantly when cruising.
Good luck!
