valve train noise

first off thanks for a great forum, and all the help. I had a loud noise coming from the right side valve cover, I removed valve cover and inspected the cam, I found a few wiped out lobes, and rocker arms, I replaced the cam, bearing towers and all the rocker arms, I started the engine, sound alot better, still getting some noise from the same location, I am thinking maby a bad lifter or two,but not sure, since it is hydrolic, with no adjustment could this be the problem, I was reading about checking the lifters with a guage and maby changing what i call the puck to a thicker one, not sure which way to go. One more thing at idle it is rough, makes the whole car shake a bit, as soon as I give it a bit of gas in gear it takes off and runs out fine. Any help would be a blessing.

Thanks

Neal

You might want to share the make, model, engine, mileage and how long you've owned the car.

You might also have wanted to determine the cause of the wiped lobes, which is indicative of lubrication failure, and perhaps why the tappets arent pumping up.

sorry, lost my mind for a moment 1980 450slc, 4.5 engine 104,000 miles I just bought it, I have no history on car looks like oil tube may have clogged up. I removed it cleaned it replaced plastic caps, cam is well lubed now it happened on number 3 and 4 cylinder. oil pressure is great when cold, and hot. hope this helps.

I was under impression those motors had mechanical valve train, not hydraulic. In any case, loss of oil to the cams, or parts of the cylinder heads, may have no ill effect on oil pressure, in fact the opposite effect could take place..... Plugged up oil galleys in the head/s, could raise oil pressure indications.

Sometimes you have to run them with the covers off to determine oil is physically making it to the right places.

Your correct, I was thinking the only way to make sure is to run the engine with the cover off, better get ready to make a bit of a mess. Thanks for your input, will post what I find.
