If you want more protection in colder climates, simply switch to a lighter weight. NO WONDER WHY THESE AWESOME CARS CAME WITH 15W40 FROM THE FACTORY!!!
Because they are not roller everything. They need the additive packages much more than modern engines do.

I have had oil analysis on Delvac, Delo and Rotella-T and Delo400 consistently shows the greatest #'s in additives so I stick with Delo400 exclusively now. 130k on my cam+rockers (NOT the later-used hardened chilled) and no ticking at all for me. I change every 4-5k miles.

Stick with MB OE, Bosch or Mann...even then I personally stick with Mann since Bosch now outsources to China. They still have a tight quality control, but its China in the end.

FWIW I really like the "Pronto" Korean-made filter. It looks like a high quality well made piece. It looked about identical to the Mahle I had taken out. With this kind of filter it is kind of hard to screw up (and if so, it would be obvious). Not so much with the old style "sticks and bugs" filter...

You cannot judge a filter by its looks nor can it be idiot-proof.

The BIGGEST problem associated with these aftermarket crap filters is that the anti-drainback feature fails or is not even included which basically means your cams are running completely dry for a few seconds until fuel pressure builds up.
I wouldn't risk my cams to save $1-2 by getting a cheap aftermarket filter. Stick with what is known to work. Stepping over dollars to pick up pennies.

there is no anti-drainback on the filter, it is cartridge type, at least the one I am thinking of

Whats the going theory on my old M115 engine in a 1970 220 GAS engine?
It's got about 100k miles and the PO was using Redline 10w-40.
I don't put many miles on the car and have only changed it once (with Redline). I like Redline products but am not convinced it has all the right stuff for this old engine.

Thumbs up

VR1 Valvoline conventional also has a pretty strong ZDDP package.
