1992 300TE PS Pump
Hi I will need to rebuild or replace my 1992 300TE Power Steering pump. It has self leveling. New ones are way too expensive. Rebuilt units seem to be in rather short supply.
I do know I need to get manufacturer and part number off the one on the car to get a correct match. I am thinking of getting a donor part from the junkyard and having that rebuilt. Does anyone know where I can send this part to get it rebuilt? There are inexpensive parts at ******** rebuilt by ATSCO. Are they any good? ******** also offers a send in to rebuild service by Lares Corporation in Minnesota. Could this be a good option if I go the Junkyard Donor part route? Thanks in Advance, David

The tandem pump on these cars is a bastard to rebuild. Enough so that the shop I work for stopped selling the repair. You either buy a reman or gamble on a used part. I'd recommend biting the bullet and buying a reman from a reputable supplier, that way you'll have a decent warranty on the part.

I rebuilt one. It wasn't too hard to do. There are a few pictorials out there. Just take your time.

Ibought the rebuild kit 5 years ago and never resealed mine, i got a pump from junk yard and dissasembled to see how hard it would be to reseal, it works just like a regular mb power steering pump , but you need to drive out the dual chamber seal that seperates the power steering part of pump from the leveling part, that seal was rock hard and wouldnt come out easily, thats why i havent done mine , (slow seepage) but i figured by carefully dremel the seal i can get it to come loose, get the part no off pump i get you the part no of kit if yours is the same
