1996 S320

Hi all-
I just brought home my "new" S320 and have many, many questions but only 2 that I will bother you fine folks with (today). Do I have to go to a dealer to get the radio code? I don't have the serial number for the unit and the PO lost the code. Also neither of the power seats or the steering column will move with the switches. The seat fuses are OK. Is there a relay for the seats and column? Thanks very much for any information-
Ken

There are a couple of options but going to the dealer is usually the easiest unless you live a long distance away. You can get your code from Becker (Becker Autosound Website) via fax or mail but you have to submit proof of ownership, a Becker form and a fee. You'll also have to pull the radio (easy - but you need "radio keys") and get the S/N off of the back. The dealer can use the VIN unless the radio has been replaced.

Beware that inputting the wrong code especially more than once will cause the radio to display 'WAIT' rather than 'CODE' and the key will have to be left on for an ever longer time.

The code is a 5 digit number. If you have any service records from a dealer look in the little box with misc info for a 5 digit number with no description.

S320

Thanks RichardM98, I will call the closest dealer (45 miles away) tuesday to try to get the code. The seats and steering column are working fine now. The fuse for the memory was blown. I have a new question - my odometer, trip odometer, and outside temp displays are all blank. They worked when I got the car so I must have done something to anger them. Does anyone know what fuse, if any, controls them?
Thanks -
Ken

Not sure on fuses, these displays I believe are backlit so possibly it's just a blown bulb.

Most MB instrument clusters of this era had backlight displays. Bulbs in the back of the cluster frequently burn out giving the effect you mention. The bulbs are color-coded to wattage. You might want to check on one of the W140 forums for location and/or copies of the fuse panel cards.
