Manually Raise/Lower W124 Wagon SLS?

So, about twice a year I use my wagon like a pickup, by putting the seats down and loading it up. Might have overdone it last time, about a month ago. Picked up a bunch of flagstone for a patio... about 1430#. Now, before I get reamed out here, it raised up and drove home beautifully. And I've done this before.

Now it seems like it's remained a few inches high, empty. I noticed a control knob in front of the spare with directional arrows on it marked "heben and senken" (raise/lower). Is this how it's done? Anyone with experience doing this?

Thanks all.
