380sl valve adjustment

I am in need of the procedures for adjusting the valves. I have a knocking valve on the passenger side.
Do I adjust all the valves to insure that all the gaps are IAW OEM specs?
Do I turn the engine with the crankshaft bolt or another location?
Do any parts need to be replaced while I have the valve cover off?
Miguel
thnx

That engine is equipped with hydraulic lash compensators, and consequently there is no provision or need for adjustment.

If the noise is coming from a valve/rocker arm, a failed compensator is the likely culprit. A damaged cam lobe may also be involved.

I am not too great of a mechanic but I can break a few things......
The compensator is located......?
Could it be a stuck lifter?

After removing the cam/valve cover, you will note that the camshaft is located above the rocker arms (also known as finger followers). One end of the rocker arm bears on the valve stem, the other end rests on a ball pivot. Within the ball pivot assembly is the compensator, which maintains the lash at zero clearance.

The term "lifter" has been avoided, since the compensator does not follow the profile of the cam as does a "lifter" in a pushrod valve train.
