I need new suspension for my car. Its a 1989 Mercedes 300E and I just installed a big car audio system and it makes my rear suspension sag. Any suggestions? Or any brand in particular?

Is the current suspension on your car all original or have you or a p. o. done any replacement/upgrades over the years?

I got the car a couple of years ago and I haven't done anything to it. I'm guessing its all OEM.

Ride height on your car is determined by the coil springs and then fine tuned with the rubber spring pads at the top of the coils. The W124 and the R129 have the same coil diameters, so you could get the stiffer coils from the V-8 400/500E or 500SL and then carefully cold cut to fit. If it's just a minor adjustment, check to see if you're already using the thickest rear pads by counting the "bumps" on the pad skirt.

MTI has a good suggestion. If you'd rather look for new parts, Pelican should have anything you need. They show aftermarket & OEM parts prices side by side. It's pretty hard to beat. Have you done rear suspension work before? Out of curiosity, what sound system did you install?

This is the system I installed. Yes I know the amplifier for the sub is small I am going to upgrade soon.





So I should buy from pelican? I've never done any kind of work on my car I think its all stock. Except the wheels hahahaha

That's 200lbs tops? I have an 80lb Jl w7-3 plus all the rest and a trunk full of appliance parts too. Car sits just fine.

I would bet you have broken rear coil springs.

yeah I got really old suspension, it even sagged when people just sat on the rear seat. But I wanted to change springs and shocks. Just so everything is nice and new.

Thats why I wanted to know of some brands or somewhere I could buy the whole package but not that expensive.

If you must install new springs, the most reliable source is MB who will supply the right parts against your VIN.

Thats some serious sag for almost no weight. The car should not sag that much even with 3 adults in the back.

Springs are most likely worn out. You will need an MB specific spring compressor to safely change them. You can get away doing it without (ONLY APPLIES TO REAR SPRINGS NOT FRONT) by removing inside lower arm bolt and lowering the control arm down slowly, but compressor is your safest option. S
