A/C Compressor whine

Belt tensioner is new, belt is new & belt tension is tight...not slipping.

My A/C compressor whines when clutch engages....is this a sign the compressor is dying?

Turn A/C on, I could hear the loud whine, turn A/C off...whine stops.

haha. hmmm, which would I rather have... a whiny wife or whiny compressor.

It's a 1986 190E 2.3L
Compressor is NipponDenso 10P15C

The whine is very loud. As soon as I turn the A/C on, I could hear it from inside the car. Turn off A/C the noise goes away right away.

I put a stethoscope on the compressor, the whine/noise is definitely from the compressor..most likely a bearing.

I will order a reman 10P15C, it comes with a bottle of Ester oil.

My question, is Ester better than PAG?
Or should I get a bottle of PAG instead?
If PAG, what viscosity & how much should I put in?
