95 E320 Fuel Leak. Help!
I noticed a fuel/oil/coolant type smell coming from my E320 while at stop lights. When I got home, I popped the hood and investigated to see if anything was leaking in/around/under the engine compartment... Nothing. So I figured it was just because it was hot and humid. WRONG!
This morning (Friday, July 19th) I backed out of my driveway to head to work and noticed a puddle. I stopped and smelled it and it was gas (Mind you, I just filled up Thursday morning ($65.00)) When I got to work, I looked under the rear of the car and noticed a constant drip (1, every 2 seconds or so) on the passenger side just infront of the rear wheel. Anyone have an idea of to what is broke/cracked/rusted? Fuel sending unit? Hose? Tank (I hope not!)? Or a shot fuel line? I plan to investigate it further on jack stands tonight to see if I can pinpoint the source, just want to get ideas from fellow Mercedes people also. I'm now down to a 1/4 tank and very flipping frustrated! |

You drove to work AFTER discovering a puddle of gas under the car?

That high pressure line has been known to leak. It happened to my old 1993 400E and my 1994 E420. I noticed that when I changed the fuel filter a few days ago on my 1995 E420, the prior owner had already replaced the line. Another guy over on the 500E board just had to replace one on an E420 he just bought too.
I had ordered the line in anticipation of it being bad. It was only about $30 for the genuine Mercedes part. If you change the filter, there are two copper washers in the front of the filter where the banjo bolt connects. It would be cheap to order these with the line and filter rather than take a chance reusing the old crush washers.

Was definitely the high pressure rubber line. Pinhole leaks EVERYWHERE! Kinda discouraging seeing that the part won't be in my local MB Service Center until Wednesday. Looks like I'll be driving the woman's SUV to work until it comes in. Should be an easy fix.

I just got done changing a leaky fuel pump. I ordered a new main line and it is arriving tomorrow. Mine has a huge bulge in it. I clamped it to change the pump and put a small cut in it. Definitely taking the Wife's car tomorrow. Blowing up would hurt.
