Talking 1985 Mercedes M110.989 not starting

Hi guys. I am in awe of the massive amount of info on this site. Lots of good info. That can also be a bad thing. Coupled with the confusing ass VIN number debaucle you have to endure. I have tried looking for the answer for this but have to date been unfruitful. I can get this car started with some started fluid and as long as i feather the throttle, it will stay running. As soon as I stop the throttle, it dies. it has been sitting for about a year when I scooped it up. Could you guys point me to where i can find the info needed to troubleshoot this car? I will be buying the M110 manual off of Ebay very soon. Oh, new fuel filter and pump. I am getting good strong spark to the cap. I will be performing a tune up in a couple days since it has probably been a long time since it has had one. Sorry, i am sure this topic has been covered many times over. i just need know what direction to go. Thanks

The most complex systems can fail in the simplest way.

Yes I replaced the fuel in the tank. I let it drain out when I replaced the fuel pump.
