Unhappy 1999 mercedes ml 430

Does anyone know the exact length of the tranny dipstick from tip to filler top on a 1999 ml 430

The dipstick is a shop tool, it was just inserted until you hit bottom, it was way long, stick out of the tube probably a foot, because it's made for any vehicle with that trans and there are various length tubes. There is no dipstick made that stays in the tube, only the shop tool.

dipstick

thats why I asked. I purchased a dipstick and inserted it and hit bottom and still had 3 inches sticking out. So if I insert it until it hits bottom the reading on the dipstick will be correct?

I will try to remember to take a pic (with measurement) of the end of the one I have in the shop next time I'm up there. It is the MB tool.

Yes that's correct, insert until it hits the bottom of the pan, it's gauged off the bottom not the top, I guess is the correct way of saying it.

checking trans fluid

do i check tranny fluid while running in park,neutral,engine off?

Running in park after running for at least 20 minutes at highway speed.
