Question piston and rod replacement

I have a 1971 280 SE six cylinder. I need a new or used piston and rod. A machanic quoted me prices for a new piston out of germany that was out of my budget. I over heated the motor when the water pump failed and ceised the motor. I need one piston and one rod. Any suggestions? How much should a complete motor out of a salavage yard run? Can I buy a short block out there? The mechanic says the block on my engine is fine. Any recommendations? Thanks

Have you thought of selling.
I would find another short block maybe?
Disassemble your engine and look.

I did that one time with a car replaced just one piston, sounded like a airplane because balance was lost, finally blew up.I'd either total rebuild or find a low mileage motor
