Service records from dealer or MBUSA

Dealer that sold my '91 300E claims that their service records only go back 5 years. I'm trying to determine what exactly was done approximately back in '94 when a cracked block or head was replaced and the bill was $5k. (previous owner, mother, doesn't remember) I suspect I might have another cracked block and of course am ready to ***** loudly if this is the second time it has happened.

Is the 5 year claim that the dealer claimed (Intercontinental Motors in Houston) true? Does MBUSA keep a centralized service record database where I could get repair records on my 300E such as this major repair?

MBUSA can provide you with any warranty work that was done but not regular maintenance or work done at non-authorized dealers. The info they provide is work done from day one.

Simply write them at:
MB Customer Assistance Center
3 Paragon Drive
Montvale, NJ 07645-0345


You will need to include the VIN # and a photocopy of your vehicle registration that has your name on it.

We have done this for both of our cars. Also, if you request it they can send you a copy of the original window sticker ( it makes for fun reading). It takes about two weeks to get the information.

Yes it helps! Thanks a bunch. So only warranty repair work will be included, no out of warranty work? Or were you saying that no out of warranty work performed by an unauthorized shop would be reflected.

Only warranty work done at an authorized MB shop is provided.

It will show you the repair date, mileage, description of work done, where the repair was made (which dealer), and sometimes give you the damage code.

So... if the original cracked head or block (back in '94) was not under warranty and also repaired at an MB shop, MBUSA can't help you.

I would still encourage you to request the information for no other reason than it will give you more info about the car's history.
