Adding ASR to 97 C280 W202?
My recently purchased 97 C280 came from sunny climes and does not have ASR. It is going to be Moms summer car but will see winter when her current car rusts away.
I'd like to add ASR and am wondering if anyone has done so. I have full mechanical / electrical / electronic capability so it isn't a question if I can make the swap and more of question of is there a hidden "have to change too much on the car". ASR on these cars pulls the throttle shot ( full drive by wire throttle / no cable. ) I'd be OK with a limited slip rear and no ASR, it is supposed to have a 198 MM / 1.3 L diff case. I suspect limited slip is $ $ . I know that: A ABS / ASR computer must replace the ABS only unit. Wires must be added to the ABS / ASR computer ( the ABS only plug is shaped the same so adding wires is easy. ) ASR shutoff switch added to dash Engine computer " Version coding " changed ? Abs pump needs changed to 4 channel from the current 3 channel ( both rears are on the same hyd / ABS ckt ) One brake line needs to be added to the rear and brought to the ABS pump. Wheel sensors must be added to each rear wheel as the ABS only system used a pinion sensor. ( the hub carriers can accept sensors. ) Drive axles changed or toothed rings added to outer axle joints. Anything else I'm missing? Thanks |

I have a S Class with it,in the winter I drive with it off, heck most of the time,I have it blocked off.You need to spin sometimes in the snow to get started. Also for summer she's much faster with it off.
