Need help removing console wood W124 coupe

The light bulb for the gear selector on my 94 coupe burnt out. I have been down this road before with my other Benzes over the years, but this car is stumping me. I removed the center "glovebox" to gain access to the 1 screw that holds the aft part of the console in place. It should just slide back, but this will not budge backwards much and certainly not enough to come out. Per the factory service manual there are no other screws to be removed. What am I doing wrong? Any tricks to this?

Thanks

pull the carpet up in the console.... there will be a screw at the base of the wood... gently lift up...

you have to lift the wood up it will probably disengage the four power windows switches..... but that's the way it works..

after you are finished you can either push the who assembly back in place or remove the individual switches... put the wood back... and then snap in the switches...
