380SL Idler Arm rebuild Q?

I've looked at rebuilding the idler arm on my 380 and the top of the big bolt hits the (starter it looks like) before it will come all the way off. I suppose that if I get the bushing mostly out I can get enough tilt to get it out. I've read that you have to take the exhaust loose on some models-True?

Any advice is appreciated.

J. Boggs
