Swapping ASD complete from E300D to E320?

1. Can it be done?
2. What's involved?

I have a complete ASD system just sitting in my old E300D, and I think it'd be awfully fun to put it behind the M104 in my E320. Seems like everything should just unplug/unbolt, with assembly the reverse of removal.

Does your E320 have ASR? I think the axle ratios are different as well.

At the least you could run the system manually.

No ASR in the E320.

Then if you move the ABS and ASD control units over, along with all the hardware and valves, you should be golden. Does the E320 use the same power steering pump mounting? The ASD pump is a tandem pump, it does both the power steering and pressure for ASD / SLS.

I haven't checked if the PS pumps are a direct swap, but I knew the PS pump was responsible for ASD as well. If not, I should be able to find the PS pump from a gasser wagon at the pick-a-part.

Is the ABS system different for ASD vs non-ASD diffs? I didn't think those were related.

According to the parts diagram the abs computer is different. The abs computer outputs wheel speed signals to the asd control unit. Check the wiring diagrams.

Hmm. Might have bitten off more than I can chew.
Am I correct in thinking that an ASD diff without the hydraulics hooked up still functions as an LSD?

It requires hydraulic pressure to lock it, otherwise its just an open diff.

Actually it is limited slip all the time, 30% as I recall... assuming the clutches are still good.
