w201 eng.oil pressure dash gage inop.

Hi Y"all.
Been catching up on all them posts since Christmas and doing some preventative maintenance on my 2.6L.Replaced my alternator bearing "Smaller of the two as it was running rough" now running quiet.
But today while motoring along to work i noticed my oil pressure gauge not working."I mean on 0". I wondered aloud if this is real. there was no unusual sound or temp rise so I knew from xperience that it is an indication problem . Continued to my job where I checked to see if the wiring was intact at the pressure xmttr, it was.
Can anyone advise me if this can be repaired and the how to .

Thanks a million.

The gauge is electrical (only the 83/84 had "live"lines), so if your other gauges were operating, you likely have a a bad pressure sender or bad gauge. It could be simple, a loose connector or worn wiring in the engine bay.

the sensor is on the oil filter housing, you should be able to disconnect the connector and jump it to ground with the koeo (key on engine off) and see the needle on the gauge to up, if it doesn't i would suspect a wiring or gauge issue

any thoughts about the following problem on my 1988 w124 300ce: not only is the oil pressure gauge dead , but so is the fuel level gauge! Both were suddenly dead when my son started the car; and he heard a ringing noise coming from the dash. Thanks.

Not sure what's up with your fuel level gauge, but it does sound like the oil pressure sender unit is bad. I assume you noticed E30M42's recommendation above on how to test it. D*mn Richard you have some nice moving stock complete with AMG body kits, et al!
