I don't agree on the MAF failure giving a MIL. I only had one fail on my '95 W124 (not as smart built in diagnostics) at around 110K miles, and it only stumbled and gave misfire codes. Getting 208K out of a MAF sounds like a good achievement.
I would really recommend measuring and verifying before throwing any parts at it, especially since it isn't stranding you. These goose chases can add up. If that means paying for a good diagnostic for time/grief saving reasons, not necessarily a bad choice. Just think about how many monthly payments your saving vs a new car.
