96 E320 Benz inside door pull linkage

I removed the left rear door panel and the wire linkage to the inside door handle popped off. I placed the loop back in the linkage end of wire face down. However the handle no longer has the tension when you pull open the door handle and it does not spring back to position. The black sheathing on cable appears to be culprit? Any pictures in how this should appear when installed properly? How much of the black sheathing should be in the black retainer/ wire guide closest to inside handle, if any? Thank you!
