420 SEL Rear main estimate
Hello out there!
I own a beautiful 90' 420 SEL and it has been diagnosed with a leaking rear main. What is a good ball park estimate for the cost of the repair assuming nothing else is wrong and it's a straight forward remove the tranny job? Many thanks |

Sorry, do you mean your differential is leaking? It depends on where and how bad it is. If bad, I think rebuilding is not possible. But if not too bad, some might live with it and add oil on a regular basis.

I think you are talking about the rear main seal at the crankshaft.
On a later engine like that one I think it can be done with the engine in the car (and the trans out, of course). On earlier (maybe <85? W116) engines - no.

Rear main at the crankshaft
Yes it is the rear main at the crank shaft. Along with the estimate, is it possible to just live with it or is there a catastrophic failure in the near future?
Thanks |
