1982 Euro W123 window wiring issues
Hello:
I have a 1982 280TE (Euro, obviously) and am having issues with my window switches and need to find a wiring diagram. My car, like a lot of euro W123 cars, has electric windows only in the front. All of the wiring diagrams I've been able to find show what looks like the typical US W123 wiring, with wiring to the four switches in the center console. My windows were working OK until I pulled apart the center console to rebuild my shift linkage. When I put it all back together, I tried some new switches I had sourced, and they worked briefly and then didn't. I reinstalled the old switches and they too worked briefly. Now neither works. I cannot hear the motors in the doors when the switches are depressed. I also checked the fuses and all seem ok. Are there relays behind the gauges? Could I have blown one? Any help would be greatly appreciated. (The shift linkage works great, so at least I'm batting 50%.) J |

Two of my 280TE's that do have power windows, have them at all 4 windows. The wiring should be the same, just maybe a different color. Did you look at the Haynes manual for 280E series? Works for my cars. The switch's do go bad. Unless someone has really torn things apart, the switch's can only be plug in two ways. The right way & 180 deg(wrong way). You can test your switch with an ohm meter for continuity. If good, trace the wires to the motor & check for continuity. You could also apply 12 volts directly to the motor to test its function
