Fuel comes out my over flow when full

My car has a persistent problem when I fill the gas tank up, it will leak down out of the gas cap , down the fender and will over flow when it's left in the hot sun all day. Not a clue !

Check your gas cap seal. if thats what it is, it's only a few bucks for a new cap. Very interesting that you bring that up,,, I forgot to put my gas cap back on today and lost about a quarter tank shooting out my filler nozzle,,,OOPS!
Good Luck!

I found this post via the "search" mode...

I noticed tonight that my 1974 450SL has the exact same problem. My car will leak gas when I drive it or rev the engine, but does not leak gas when it is sitting there. I could not see where there is any place where the tank could be leaking, however when I took a good look at my gas cap it looks like the seal on the cap is kind of off to the Benz dealer tomorrow....I'll probably have to order one....

Good luck!
