Fuel comes out my over flow when full
My car has a persistent problem when I fill the gas tank up, it will leak down out of the gas cap , down the fender and will over flow when it's left in the hot sun all day. Not a clue !

Check your gas cap seal. if thats what it is, it's only a few bucks for a new cap. Very interesting that you bring that up,,, I forgot to put my gas cap back on today and lost about a quarter tank shooting out my filler nozzle,,,OOPS!
Good Luck! Adam

I found this post via the "search" mode...
I noticed tonight that my 1974 450SL has the exact same problem. My car will leak gas when I drive it or rev the engine, but does not leak gas when it is sitting there. I could not see where there is any place where the tank could be leaking, however when I took a good look at my gas cap it looks like the seal on the cap is kind of bad.....so off to the Benz dealer tomorrow....I'll probably have to order one.... Good luck! Mike
