Question Oil Filter for a 1994 C280

I'm a new owner of a 1994 C280, so please bear with me.

Is the oil filter located in front of the engine or somewhere at the rear of it? I did my first time oil change yesterday and unscrewed what I thought was the oil filter housing (in front) only to find a filter about an inch thick in the bottom of the housing. It was held down with a spring and a plastic shaft looking piece. It does not look anything like the canister type of oil filter I purchased. I ordered the filter from the Benz Bin website and they do not show any other filter other than the canister type about 6 inches tall. If the filter I found is not the oil filter, what is it?

Thanks

The oil filter is located at the back of the engine. It is in a metal canister with a black plastic cap on it. Unscrew the plastic cap and then you will be able to take out the filter.

The filter you found sounds like the power steering filter. Hopefully you didn't fill the filter and resevoir with 30 weight .

The funny thing about the oil filter location is that the dealer is the one that told me the power steering filter location was the oil filter location. I found the correct one last night. Thanks. No, I did not pour 30 weight in there.
