How to replace a bulb w126

I am having a hell of a time replacing the headlight bulb for my '89 560sec.

Am I missing something here (aside from a chromosome for not being able to do something so simple?)??

Thanks!

My youngest W126 is 30 years old and I haven't had to replace a bulb yet. You must have got a lemon. My condolences

Remove rear cover on headlight housing (pinch and slide up).

Rotate collar inside housing to release bulb (might be difficult)

Remove bulb from wire/coupler

Reverse process, don't touch the bulb surface with your skin or it will fail very quickly

How to replace a bulb w126

I assume you've got US Lights.

Remove the back of the headlight housing. Rotate the white plastic bulb holder. It may also have a wire bulb retainer that you need to squeeze & fold down. Unplug & remove bulb. Replace bulb with new one, using dry rag or tissue on bulb surface (or handle it from the rear/plug side. Twist bulb holder back into place. If applicable, flip wire back up and secure. Plug connector to back of bulb. Test with headlight switch for proper operation. If good, replace rear cover to headlight.

It's a good idea to do both bulbs at the same time, as older bulbs can have a different color than newer bulbs do with age/use.

Cheers,
Gerry
