clutch fan issue?

Hi All, read here alot and now can't find a thread on this issue, if it is one
My om617 is running hot and am doing a radiator flush tomorrow.
Is there anyway to see if the clutch fan is properly working?

I read a thread that mentioned if it spins freely it's bad, is this true?

Yes if it spins freely when the car is hot it's bad I believe. After the car is warmed up shut it off with the stop lever, the fan should stop on it's own quickly and not free wheel to a stop. Also if you try and spin the fan by hand (when the engine is hot) you should feel some resistance to rotation, more so than when it is cold.

This board isn't manned with tech support so you may or may not get an instant reply.

Under what conditions does the car run hot? Specific air / coolant temps?

After pulling radiator and hearing stuff rolling around in it figure a good professional flush should do it.

Will update after reinstalled and run

you may never hear the fan in winter - my car maintains engine temperature of 90-95C all day long and I dont hear the engine fan. when it was bad - it would raise temperature.

simple test for fan is on cold start, the fan should be engaged for a short time - 5-20 seconds (can vary) - the fan also requires the fins of the radiator and condenser to be clean as the fan clutch requires hot air to activate.
