190e 2.6 (1990) heater blower suddenly stop working.
hi guys,
today while driving around, out of blue the blower motor stopped like i turned it all the way down to 1 setting. the other controls works. i can hear them click and change etc. i just removed to lube the wiper arm mechanics last week i wonder if i tear something up or something? here is my question, i am suspecting a blown fuse since it suddenly gone out. but i cant find the famous 3 amp ribbon fuse anywhere... i dont thing the switch is the problem since i havent touched it and it lights up. what should i look for? also i have the some heat coming while going fast from the side vents and i have the common stuck on heat problem. but since its winter and i have non working ac pump i was thinking to attack it next summer. any ideas how to make the blower work again? i havent done anything unusual other than remowing the wiper motor last week. i have to make the blower work again because cleveland is getting colder and colder. thanks. happy new year

Does the blower motor run okay when the key is turned to the first position, before starting the engine? Sometimes in my '87 190E after starting the engine my blower would stop. The problem became more frequent. Then I discovered if I back off the key rotation a touch counterclockwise, the blower would run again. There must be something delicate in there about the switched electrical circuit, like it's meant to cut the blower fan off while the starter is cranking. I hope you are lucky and find a simple solution like that.
I had a much bigger problem develop when my heater core recently split and dumped hot antifreeze all over my feet. I clamped off the hoses under the hood and have been running without heat for a couple months while I get up the nerve to disassemble the dashboard. Even northern California is getting colder and colder. I found an encouraging technical article here that looks like it was written just for me. We'll see how it goes... |
