I just read the notice of 300 D's which have troubles and recently purchased a 87 300 D with turbocharger and 94k miles. It does not seem to be the model that was causing troubles, but does anyone know of probles with this year and model?

This model was affected by faulty windage tray(s) in the oil pan area. Have someone check it for missing bolts or cracks with a boroscope. (spelling)? Also, I have seen problems with the cylinder heads and with the oil pump drives. Good Luck with your car. My boss had the some exact model and it was wrecked with 322,000 miles on the same engine.
