Fuel Hose Leak
Few weeks back I noticed a gas smell and visually discovered the large hose is leaking. I put a cookie tin under it a couple weeks ago and have collected about 4 oz of fuel. That is net after evaporation at temps reaching about 15-30F days (at highest) and low as single digits at night. I have since covered the tin with foil, shaped like a funnel and poked a small hole to let the gas in, that should slow the evap. That white stuff appeared to be ice. I suppose the evaporation off the hose cools it enough to condense and freeze moisture from the air. I can't imagine it is water from the gas. I knocked that stuff off the first day, it grew back. I knocked the new formation into the tin and it melted in the gas. I took another hunk recently and put it in a jar, it melted in the house. It is about 50/50 gas floating on top of an emulsified mix. I seldom use any ethanol mix and only the min amount needed until I get to a No ETOH premium pump, could ETOH be the culprit? Would that hurt the hose? Hose just getting old? So what is the part number for that hose, and where do you suggest I buy one? Could I use any hose or does it have to be OEM? What are the specs on the hose, so I can purchase one before taking this one off? Will the tank drain on me when I pull the hose? Doesn't seem to leak any faster if the key is on to run the pump or the engine is running. Thanks in advance!

I go to any auto parts and ask for a foot,of 7/16 hose.

I looked around the webs. part# 123 476 30 26 fits most any W126 of that era.
Sold be the meter, and I need only inches. 14mm ID x 22 OD if covered with the braided, spec is 7 bar. I can't find a local auto parts that has that large in pressure hose. So far it looks like I will have to buy a meter of this. I could give the rest away in 5 inch pieces so you all can replace your old stuff before it starts leaking

This is gas, yours (300SD I assume) takes 5.5 X 12.5 mm I see #107 476 37 26 If you look up 300sd, but it says covers a bunch (part 92 in the diagram) including the gassers.
FUEL PUMP PACKAGE. Fits: 1983 Mercedes 300 SD Sedan | Mercedes-Benz of South Atlanta Then look up a gasser and get the results I have, but it also says covers a bunch of models including the SD FUEL PUMP PACKAGE. Fits: 1985 Mercedes 500 SEL Sedan | Mercedes-Benz of South Atlanta Some show it straight and some show it elbowed, they all say elbow in the part. Mine is straight and easily the larger diameter (see my photo) so I'll go with the gasser listing. Something seems amiss with the lookup system. When they say "Chassis: 126032/68P, 126033/68P, 126037/68P, 126120/68P" what does the '/68P' mean?

In a word, very likely.
Why not pull that hose from its connection as far away from the tank as possible and use the hose to drain the tank ?

Make Fuel Banjo Hard Lines
Check this out guys...I have a a post some where on here that talks about changing hoses. Once you start changing hoses.. Change dry or wet hoses. I start from my engine bay to my 1981 300td gas tank. Also I have a reserve tank that's inside of the car(hoses included). But I truly believe you have to watch out for the hard lines that run under the car. These lines are covered with that "black tar". Your lines could be rusted through and you just don't know it. Don't be afraid to get some extra rubber from the parts store. You never, never know when you will need it. I always keep different widths in my safety kit. Finally, I hope you can watch this video I made. It will help everyone out a lot! Can you say save me some money!! Also you WILL HAVE TO DO THIS. Why? MB doesn't make some hard lines any more.

5/16s fuel hose,I was wrong.Just bought some for my w140 high pressure line.I use the same on my om617.951

Wanted to follow up!
Today with the tolerable weather conditions I installed the new hose. This stuff:
Taped it off and cut with thin grinder blade, easy peeezy. Looked like a lunar surface covered with welding spatter inside after that, with quite the melt burr ridge also. Stanley knife and drag a rag - shiny as an oil slick. Those 30 YO original SS clamps still looked new, MB part numbers and all. I was prepared - but less than a cc of fuel leaked out. I suppose sitting all winter let the pressure off. Not much was in the tank anyway, and I had jacked up the pass side so the tank outlet was probably not flooded. Good luck trying this with a full tank and the pressure not bled off  Unless someone can confirm that this shouldn't drain all over you anyway?
