1983 300TD Gas Gauge Sending Unit
The gas gauge on my 1983 300TD (wagon) has stopped working and I suspect the gas gauge sending unit. How do I gain access to the sending unit and how do I test it?
Thanks Last edited by BWhitmore; 05-13-2015 at 09:58 AM. |

The fuel sender unit is under the first aid box in the rear panel. Open the box, remove the kit and then remove the screws that hold the box in the rear deck and lift the box out. Once that is out you will see the top of the unit going down into the fuel tank. Disconnect the wiring plug and unscrew the big nut. You will need either a large socket or a large slip joint wrench that opens pretty wide. Remove the nut and pull the unit out.

My car is a wagon. I think your description fits the sedan (I have one of these too). Thanks.

It will be under the carpet in the back of the wagon. The indent where you have storage or the seat for the thrid row. Remove that panel and you will see it. Just look for the wires leading to the sendind unit.
