Welcome back to the home of the worst drivers in the world. A few years ago I went skiing in Idaho. Everyone on US80 was as courteous as could be;they would signal, pass in the left lane, and pull back into the right lane when done passing. I didn't need a map or road sign or GPS to know when I was back in the state. There was this lady puttzing along in the left lane with California plates. It's too bad bazookas are considered assault weapons.

S/b welcome back to the bay area- glad to hear you had a chance to enjoy your car safely and w/o further mechanical incident

Peter- I totally agree w/ you re: the what happend to the old MB...? Seems like there are trade-offs in each generation/decade of MB vehicles (+/-)...hopefully on the whole MBs are offering better and better ownership experiences. Case in point- I don't see the previous quality in materials and construction in today's MBs- - however, we also don't see the lofty old world pricing as well.

imho- MB currently would do better to incorporate 200k longevity, low maintence, and trouble free characterics of my '88 Toyota Celica (247k-motor never cracked open) then- - it would be a economic no-brainer paying for the premium for all the other good stuff in the MB package....

I'll be taking my '94 E500 (39.2k) Starmark into Smythe European in San Jose, CA tommorrow to have some fluid leaks addressed:
>p/s?
>hydraulic?
>trans?

hopefully, I'll have it back neat and tidy again same day

regards

here's a follow-up:

leaking fluid sourced to p/s, Smythe replaced p/s pump as seals were done not too long ago

Thanks for the followup, fad. (Have to take a look at the pump myself. No leaks that I can see, but I haven't looked closely.)

Now that the car and I are now both back in the Bay Area, would you recommend Smythe for warranty work? I don't mind the drive down to the South Bay if I can work with a staff who are helpful and competent.

s/b-

I'd recc Smythe- I've found that they are speedy and efficient and don't willy nilly the Starmark warranty.
(near 180 degrees opposite vs. European Motors of SF-... forged effective relationship w/ them for over 5 years, but was required to negotiate the majority of clearly covered warranty repairs)

Smythe will provide rental car (gratis) while your car is in , and will wash it (gratis) prior to returning it.

I recc Mr. Paul Werner as an excellent Service Advisor 408-345-2209. I've found Paul to be totally consistent in his honest & caring character and has always tried his best to please his client. Paul calls me immed upon diagnosis of issues, calls to let me know when parts have arrived (if ordered for the repair), and updates me on eta's of completion. He even accomodates my request to ensure that the E500 is stored inside vs. sitting in the hot sun or outside chilly overnight.

I've found the tech skills to be entirely competent in supporting my cause to me maintain the '94 E320 Coupe and '94 E500 in perfect mechanical condition. I've not had to return for any repair re-do's.

hope this helps
