W202 kompressor fan clutch issue
i have a fan clutch the just won't budge. The Indy Mercedes shop even gave up on it. Is there a way to remove the water pump with the clutch still attached? Looks like I can get to the bolts if I take to pulley bolts out to slide the pulley out a bit

I think this has the same style fan mount as a inline 6 car. For those, hold the pulley with a strap wrench and use an impact wrench to take out the center allen bolt.

It's not an alien bolt it's a 32mm nut on the back that threads onto get water pump. I tried the strap wrench but it's not strong enough to hold the pulley from turning. I might try cutting the clutch off at nut then putting an impact socket to see if that'll work

I've seen this used but never used it-

Oh, that kind. One method I use on other cars is to hold the pulley with the strap wrench, put an open end wrench on the hex then strike the wrench with a hammer in the direction of removal, it could be left or right hand thread so be sure to check. Once it breaks free it should spin off.
As the pulley spins, it is turning in the direction of threading the clutch on so you want to turn the hex in the direction the fan normally spins. |
