190E 2.6 stalled and won't start
Recently my 2.6 has been stalling unless I rev the car and red lights to keep it from stalling. Finally I parked it in my driveway one day and it stalled completely and won't start. What can be the problem?
I replaced the spark plugs, distributor cap, and rotor. Engine turns but doesn't start. I suspect that there is no spark, tried pulling out spark plug #1 and there is no spark. What other component should I look it? How else can I test for spark? |

First and foremost go check to see what codes are stored in the system. Check ALL spark plugs for spark, don't just assume there is no spark because of one plug. It's more difficult to trouble shoot an electrical problem than it is a fuel problem, so start with the fuel first. Turn the key to the on position, but don't crank it, then go stuff a rag under the main fuel line and crack it open to check for fuel delivery. This is just precautionary since you already have identified the no spark. If there is fuel, which there should be, go check the fuses on top of the OVP behind the battery. Assuming that the fuses are ok, now it's time to start testing to isolate the problem. Pull each plug individually to check for spark, if no spark at any of the plugs, use a multimeter, set the dial to the resistance setting and test each plug for continuity, should be about 1kohm I think, it's stamped on the metal part of the plug. If that checks out, test the rotor next, again resistance is stamped on the part. Next check the distributor cap for flaws, check to make sure the spring loaded carbon tip on the inside did not break off when installing. Next check the ignition coil to be sure it's working. Then check the crank position sensor and cam position sensor. Then test the EZL.

What do you mean by what codes are stored in the system?

Has your car an immobiliser fitted . Pick up a plug tester fix one end of the tester on the plug and push the other part in the plug leed . As you crank the engine it will spark if the system is ok .No spark might be the leed itself ,or the coil ,or EZL . Another check is crank over the engine can yopu see any movement on the rev counter.

Stored codes as in CEL. I don't know what set up you have, but if it's the built in LED you should be able to pull the codes, if not then you need to make the reader, which I don't know how to do. If any of the tests or tasks are not familiar to you, you might be better off just having a mechanic figure it out for you because it might be something simple. Worse case scenario is that it's gonna require some work or a replacement of some sort and you can probably do the work yourself one properly diagnosed. Good luck.

Do you have the instructions or information translates to on what the LED numbers mean on the CEL?

My part came in and and I replaced the ignition coil. Car still won't start. Checked for spark and it seems weak (yellow). Could it be the wires or ignition module?

What part? You never mentioned that you were ordering a part. Did you check for stored codes? Did you test the components? You can either run some tests to see where the problem is or you can start replacing every component under the hood until the car starts up. Good luck.

I replaced the ignition coil, so now I went from no spark to a weak spark.
So far the items I replaced are the distributor caps, rotors, spark plugs and ignition coil. I'm going to check for the codes later today, |

I went and checked the codes on the car.
There's no fault in the system, 1 flash. This was done after the battery was disconnected. |

Tried attempting to start and and then read the code. Still flashes once.

You won't have any codes after the battery is disconnected because that deletes them.

Wouldn't an attempt to start put the code back into memory, assuming it's still the same problem keeping it from starting?
