Does my 1998 E300D have an OBDII interface?
My 98 E300D (Diesel) was built in Germany (Vin Starts with WDB)
Need to troubleshoot an ignition problem (between switch and computer) Does this vehicle have an OBD Interface? (Because I understand OBDII didn't get installed in European build W210s prior to 2001) |

Where a car is built means less than what market it is built for.
WDB is the World Manufacturer Identifier not the plant where is was built. In this case W ( Germany ) DB ( Daimler Benz ) For place of manufacturer, use position 11 of the VIN. However, the market where the car is to be sold matter more in your case. Look in the drivers door jamb for a sticker with the VIN, it also should have some verbiage about what countries safety standards it is certified for. For the gas version of your car, the OBD plug is just above the drivers right leg / accelerator pedal. Open the flip cover to access the socket. The MB propitiatory 38 pin connector is under the right side of the hood near the base of the windshield. There is a 2" round cover you remove like a gas cap. Your car will have this as it is also an access port for the AC / ABS / Airbag / Transmission and any other system that has diagnostic capabilities. |
